Techniques of Behavior Management: 30 Years of “Moulding Your Child” Mission

This handbook for parents subtitled: ” Techniques to Improve Children’s Behaviour” was a profesdional psychologist’s answer to parents’ despraration:” How exactly do I change my child’s behavior?” It was written soon after I began my practice in Dubai as a Psychologist.
The publication of this book, as several reports mentiined, marked a significant moment in regional child psychology literature, as it was found to be a unique blending of clinical insights with practical parenting strategies.
The first edition was published in 1995 by Better Yourself Books (BYB), Mumbai (then Bombay), a global publishing house ( St Paul’s Society). This affiliation gave the book extensive reach across India, Southeast Asia and Africa. The first edition was specifically marketed toward parents, teachers, and school counselors struggling with behavioral issues in children (ages 5–12).
In India, it was distributed through the vast network of St. Pauls Book Centres (located in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Kochi) and was frequently featured in educational book fairs.
In the UAE and Middle East, it was stocked by major retailers like Jashanmal, where it became a staple for the expatriate community.
The book received considerable attention for its “hands-on” approach, which was seen as a departure from denser, purely academic texts of the time.
Indian National Press: Reviews in major dailies like The Times of India and The Hindu praised the book for its simplicity and the “Study-Sense” methodology. It was often described as a “practical guide for the modern Indian parent” navigating the shift from traditional to nuclear family structures.
It was noted in regional psychology bulletins for its integration of Cognitive Behavior Modification (CBM) into daily parenting routines.
In the UAE, the Gulf News took it up for cover story of its Magazine, and Khaleej Times featured the book in “Family” and “Health” sections.
The book’s impact was perhaps most visible in the academic sector:
The book was frequently recommended in the newsletters of prominent schools in India and the UAE. Several schools adopted chapters or “behavior charts” from the book for use in Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) workshops.
Institutional Bestseller: In clinical directories the book is consistently referred to as a “bestseller,” a status largely driven by bulk adoption by educational institutions for their counseling departments.
The ultimate “review” of the book’s effectiveness came from the Government of Sharjah. After observing the success of the first edition in the UAE, the Supreme Council for Childhood (under the SCFA) commissioned an Arabic translation titled Tashkeel Al ‘Tfaal in 1998, ensuring its principles reached the local Arabic-speaking population.
